I am a mother of three wonderful children, two of whom were born at home, ranging in ages from 30 down to 21. I have been married for 33 years and reside in Kewaskum, Wisconsin - a small town north of Milwaukee I am a Wisconsin-Licensed, Certified Professional Midwife. I am also certified as a childbirth educator and labor assistant through ALACE. I have been attending births since 1992. To date, I have attended over 410 births in various capacities, as a midwife or a midwife’s assistant at homebirths, and as a professional labor assistant for hospital-birthing couples.
My practice, BirthSpirit, is dedicated to these essential truths about childbirth:
The process of human childbirth is a normal physiological process perfectly designed by nature to bring babies into the world. It is an instinctive, primal experience that has it’s own rhythm and pace which should be respected and honored, and works best when interfered with as little as possible. Women should have as much control as possible in determining their care, and should be encouraged to be active participants in decision-making and self-care. When informed, supported and encouraged to follow their own instincts, women can be active givers of birth rather than passive receivers of birth technology. Childbirth, when experienced in this way, has the potential to be a transformative event; women who take responsibility for their births and give birth to their babies under their own power, emerge from the experience empowered, with a new sense of their own capabilities. This transformation benefits not only that mother and her children, but the entire family unit, the community, the culture at large, and ultimately the world, as it encourages peaceful, loving, responsible relationships. As we birth, so we live.
For those desiring to birth at home, I extend my services as a traditionally-trained midwife. This is a multi-dimensional service encompassing all aspects of the perinatal experience, and includes prenatal care throughout the pregnancy, attendance at the labor for any period of time required, management of delivery of baby, including use of emergency measures if necessary, postpartum care, breastfeeding counseling, and use of my lending library. I see clients in my home office or at my Milwaukee-area office in the Well-Rounded Maternity Center in Menomonee Falls, WI.
I also practice as a homeopathic wellness consultant. I practice out of my home, offering guidance to people who are looking for assistance in improving their health through natural means. My specialty is in the use of homeopathic medicines, but I also suggest herbal, nutritional, and body/mind therapies for people of all ages.
All services are available on a flexible fee scale basis.
