I believe that birth is a normal process, and a healthy event.  I believe that pregnancy is an exciting time, for learning and change.  I believe the midwife's role is to teach and to serve, and to safeguard the health of both mother and child, while maintaining an atmosphere for family intimacy and bonding.  Preventing complications is my foremost concern, which means close and personal surveillance throughout pregnancy and birth.

My career as a midwife has spanned over 400 deliveries - with more than 80 of these births occurring outside the hospital.  I maintain a collaborative agreement with a board-certified OB-GYN physician, should the need arise for medical care or hospitalization.  I work with a select pool of trained birth assistants (nurses and midwives).  We serve a geographic area of about a 90 mile radius.  This is centered in Teays Valley and extends into the neighboring areas of Charleston WV, Beckley WV, Huntington WV, Gallipolis OH, and to eastern KY.

I earned my MSN in 1998 at Case Western Reserve University, and have been certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) since 1998.  I maintain active memberships in both the national and local chapters of ACNM, Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA), and Doulas of North America (DONA).  Certified in neonatal resuscitation and CPR, I also hold current WV and OH licenses.  In 2005 I was appointed to the faculty of West Virginia University.  I am a Medicaid provider, and will be happy to assist billing other insurance plans as well.

I use a blended philosophy of family-centered care; the midwifery model (full scope - from fertility/family planning, mammograms, and pap tests, to comprehensive prenatal care); and elements from Ina May Gaskin, the Bradley Method, ICEA, and Lamaze.
