You’re about to bring a baby into the world. Congratulations!
Birth is an exciting and exhilarating experience. One that was created long before technology. While we’re thankful for what technology can do for us in emergency situations, birth is a normal, natural life process and it benefits both mother and baby to keep it normal and natural.
MIDWIFERY SERVICES: Homebirth with a licensed midwife is becoming the "ultimate birth choice" for many couples. Studies show that birth at home is equally safe and likely more so than birth in a typical hospital. With less technical intervention and more emphasis on prevention, education and counseling, low-risk women typically birth at home in strength and joy! This is the "Midwifery Model of Care."
DOULA SERVICES: Although you may have someone close to you to help you through labor, studies show that the additional presence of a trained labor assistant (midwife/doula) results in much more satisfying labors and births. The birth of your baby is a memory you’ll cherish your entire life. It makes sense to have an experienced woman there to support you.
Some of my services include...
~Providing information and practical alternatives so you can give birth with confidence, strength and joy.
~Helping you decide what’s important to YOU and working with you to reach your goals.
~Providing physical comfort measures in working through your contractions, including relaxation techniques, touch and massage, emotional support, variations in positioning, water birth and other labor support techniques.
~Providing expert assessment of normal labor and birth. Complications rarely occur in healthy, well nourished moms, but if they do, I carry emergency medical equipment and am prepared to handle this in your home. I can assess if more technical services are necessary and can implement quick emergency transport if needed.
~Helping your partner/spouse ease into his roles of coach and father.
~Staying with you through it all...even if unexpected medically necessary changes occur. I will make sure you understand the benefits, risks and alternatives of any intervention that is suggested.
~Being on call for you to answer questions, comprehensive prenatal, birth and postpartum care (comprehensive for midwifery service only, limited for doula services).
~Breastfeeding and bonding assistance.
~Extensive lending library.
My education/experience is as follows:
I am a mother of 7.
I am a licensed midwife in the State of South Carolina and working towards National recognition as a Certified Professional Midwife. I am certified with Doulas of North America (DONA) and am a childbirth educator and lactation consultant.
I have been working in both home and hospital birth settings since 2000.
I also have almost 10 years hospital experience in several departments including labor and delivery and emergency.
I would love to discuss your birth goals and help you achieve the gentle birth memories you desire. Feel free to call me to simply inquire or schedule a consultation.
Thanks and all my best to your new family~

Lisa made our dreams of a peaceful home delivery come true. Our birth was truly a spiritual and beautiful experience that words cannot describe. Lisa made us feel confident and successful throughout the birth process. Choosing to have a home birth was the first major decision that my husband and I had to make for our child. We both feel that it was the best possible decision for us and we hope that the rest of our decisions regarding raising our daughter turn out just as well!!

My husband and I asked Lisa to assist us as a doula. During my pregnancy Lisa provided me with very helpful advice on nutirition and exercises to help our baby be best positioned for delivery. Her approach is extremely professional and yet sensitive to each client's desires or needs. During labor and delivery, Lisa was awesome, helping my husband to help me and then filling in when he was tired. We hope to have more children and hope that Lisa will be able to assist us again.

On our first visit with Lisa we knew we needed to have her as our midwife. She met our spiritual, emotional and physical needs through her knowledge and experience as a midwife.
Mostly, I appreciated the freedom and empowerment Lisa gave me to control the birthing of our child. On the morning of our little Lucy's birth, Lisa cared for us not as patients but as a part of her family.

Lisa Byrd HMMMMMM!
Can I say the best midwife/doula/friend in the world!!!!!!! Yes, I can because she has been all of those and more to me. Her wisdom comes first in her ministry. She lets nothing (not even money) outweigh her concern for you and your baby. She wants healthy births above all and will stop at nothing to acheive that. I will cherish this woman forever for her friendship and transparancy. !

Lisa--you helped make Henry's birth more than I could have ever dreamed. During the pregnancy, I looked forward to our visits, your knowledge and counsel. At the birth, you gave just the right amount and kind of support. Not too much and not too little. Your intuition with a birthing mother is amazing and your work is truly a ministry AND a gift.
