Family centered prenatal classes
For pregnancy, birth, and beyond
~ Childbirth, breastfeeding and new parent preparation
class: This class is a
complete holistic preparation class for any expectant woman and her partner.
Whether you are having your first baby or your third this class will help you
connect to your self, your baby, your partner, and other families as you
prepare for the birth and the care of your new baby. This class utilizes the
best the Bradley Method has to offer, the works of birth pioneers Penny Simkin,
Pam England, Ina May Gaskin, and Nicole’s experience of over 10 years working
with and supporting women and family birthing in hospitals, birth centers and
their own homes.
Through
the 8 week hands on class we will cover:
Pregnancy: how to incorporate
good nutrition, exercise, emotional
and
physical self care into your daily routine.
Labor and Birth: how to work with
your body through labor, comfort measures, prenatal and labor massage
techniques (taught by Robin Sappington, LMT). Having a positive hospital or
home birth experience (guest teacher Tami Ough, RN from SCMC)
Postpartum and
Newborn Care: Preparing your home and family for the early
weeks of having a new baby, breastfeeding. How to care for your newborns physical and emotional needs. We
will learn about diapering options and practice using cloth and disposable
diapers. The basics of bathing. Day and nighttime parenting. Infant massage
beginning at birth (taught by Robin Sappington, LMT).
GREAT NEW CLASS FOR SIBLINGS!
~A new baby in our family, A class for
siblings. Whether you plan on having your older child at the birth of your new
baby or not, this class can help them feel more comfortable with the new
changes in their family and reassure them that they will remain special and
loved. In this one day class children
and their families will enjoy two fun filled hours of age appropriate
information on birth, infant feeding and newborn care. We will watch a birth
movie that shows siblings present for the birth of their new baby. We will talk
about what life with a new baby is like and how they can help be a part of the
care of the baby. The whole family will get some hands on time with diapering a
”baby” using cloth diapers and disposable, putting “baby” in a sling, burping ,and comforting a new “baby”. We will
finish class up by making a “welcome to our family” gift for the new baby
brother or sister.
Classes
are held once every month on a Saturday (call for upcoming dates)
