I am a homebirth midwife serving NE Kansas and the surrounding area. I am the mama of 3 homebirthed, homeschooled children and partnered with a lovely man for almost 20 years. I will be graduating from Ancient Art Midwifery Institute in 2008. I am currently involved in the production of Birth, the play, a global BOLD movement. I am cofounder of our local chapter of Lawrence Citizens for Midwifery.
I believe pregnancy and birth are natural physiological processes that open and move through a woman’s body, mind and spirit. Pregnancy and birth are parts of the deeply personal and intimate journey involving every aspect of a woman’s being. This journey can be a time of great vulnerability and a time of great empowerment. I believe in a woman's ability and right to birth safely, healthfully and joyfully where she chooses, how she chooses and with whom she chooses.
Birth is a rite of passage for the whole family: For the partner, who has been there through the tender emotional outpourings, the queasy days, the first fluttering kicks, the frolics felt just beneath the ribs and, finally, the labor and birth—the grand event. For the baby, who is profoundly affected in ways that we are only beginning to recognize. Everyone is moved by this transition of life, from womb to room.
The midwifery care I offer is a culmination of 10 years of midwifery study, an apprenticeship with a local midwife, births of my own three children and my passion. The care I offer is my contribution to creating a better world one baby, one mama, one family at a time.
