The duration of carrying a child and the process of giving birth is the most important time period of a woman’s life. The quality of this experience has a huge impact on other phases of motherhood, child rearing, and families. The mission of Dyekora Sumda Midwifery Services is to put control of the birthing process back into the hands of women and their support systems, by offering extraordinary prenatal and birthing care, postpartum, and well woman gynecological services. The combination of modern technology with natural and alternative care, allow Dyekora Sumda to offer a holistic approach to reproductive health and create an environment that makes child-bearing a normal, home-based event as opposed to an illness-oriented, institution-based process. Through comprehensive perinatal education, and the facilitation and promotion of support services, knowledge, choice, and empowerment, make this cherished experience one filled with positive outcomes both medically and emotionally.

Dyekora Sumda, Healing a community one family at a time.

S. Memaniye Cinque, CNM has 12 years experience in maternal/child health as a RN in labor and delivery, a certified childbirth educator and a midwife. After graduating from SUNY Downstate Midwifery school she worked as a hospital based midwife until opening her private practice thereby expanding the scope of her practice to include home and birth center birth.

She is the mother of five children, two of which were born at home, and wholeheartedly believes that pregnancy and birth have the power to positively reshape the lives of women and their families. Life has a way of allowing us opportunities to increase our self-esteem, self-confidence, and our ability to understand one another. For women, “growing”, “glowing” and “birthing” a baby is a crucial, divine episode in one’s lifespan. Memaniye can not imagine doing any work besides nurturing and facilitating this natural process for the woman and her family. She believes that You are delivering your baby and therefore have the right and responsibility to birth Your way.

She also understands that a woman’s life doesn’t begin or end with pregnancy and spends time in the community conducting workshops educating women about what a midwife does and the importance of seeking the care and advice necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle before, during and after pregnancy. She is very familiar with the use of herbs for health maintenance and restoration and uses them quite extensively in her practice.
