Greetings and welcome to where it takes a village to raise a child begining with a midwife assited homebirth.
I am a traditional midwife who practices primarily in Georgia. Occasionally I will travel to Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tenessee. I have served families since 1980. At this point in my career, I stand side by side to the Granny Midwife, who once reigned throughout the southern hemisphere of the Unites States serving both Blacks and Whites, the poor and the "well to do", the young and more seasoned mothers. I have learned a lot from these families who represent all walks of life, including those of varying religious and spiritual beliefs, cultures, and traditions.

I began my service answering “the call” from my community. In 1979 I began my journey into motherhood and midwifery after giving birth to my first born (who was born at home). Shortly after this amazing experience, my first call came in and the calls have continued to since. Four children later and over five hundred births, I continue to serve mothers escorting babies safely into this world. Being a midwife is more who I am rather than what I do. Homebirth has always been my passion since the birth of my first child.

Pregnancy and Birth as a Rites of Passage
Birth is a powerful opportunity for women to become empowered and knowledgeable about the physical and spiritual journey of giving birth. As a midwife, my goal is to safely guide and guard the birthing mom, baby and family through this process by making space for the physical, emotional and spiritual expressions of bringing a child into this world. This experience becomes a life evolving experience which will forever change your life. This experience transforms one into motherhood and fatherhood. At first, I will lead, next I will walk with you side by side, I will then allow you to take the lead and I will be your guiding post. My services are interactive, meaning there are some aspects of your pregnancy and birth where I will be responsible for, but for the most part, you are expected to take an active role in being responsible for your physical self, your spiritual self, your mental and emotional wellbeing. I will walk this path with you and watch you grow.

I Believe

I believe that a woman’s body is designed to give birth naturally and that both pregnancy and birth are normal processes. However, there are circumstances when pregnancy and birth require medical attention, in which homebirth may not be an option. I also believe that pregnancy is a rite’s of passage as the mother (couple) prepares for one of life’s most memorable experience. Normal childbirth is my specialty and I do my best to guide a mother as she journeys through pregnancy and birth. It is up to her to maintain a healthy lifestyle to insure a safe and healthy birth outcome. I believe in wholistic care; tending to her physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally.  Each woman receives customized care to meet her own individual needs. I believe that women (and men) have the right to select where to birth and with whom to assist, responsibly.

I maintain a balance of traditional birthing practices from cultures around the world and those of the west. I also incorporate the newest trends in childbirth which proves to have evidence based outcomes.  I take a great deal of time with the women in my care to educate and build trust in the birthing process. A couple’s care is based on informed choices thus providing an empowering experience. My goal is to change the story of childbirth to that which gives the mothers confidence in their ability to birth without fear.
