I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM).
This means that I have met the academic and clinical requirements set forth by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).
At this time, NARM is the only recognized credentialing agency that requires training in out-of-hospital settings.
The NARM written exam is the requisite verification of knowledge recognized by the Medical Board of California for the midwifery license applicant.
I am licensed by the Medical Board of California (LM)
to practice midwifery in home, birthing clinic, or hospital environments.
Currently, however, I have limited my practice to
attending women in their homes.
I practice the Midwives Model of Care,
which is distinct from the medical model of maternity care. It is founded in a respect for the physiological birth process, a commitment to reliable information, and a belief that women are intelligent and have the right, and responsibility, to make excellent choices for themselves and their children.
The Midwives Model of Care© is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.
The Midwives Model of Care© includes:
*Monitoring the well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle;
*Providing the mother with individualized education and counseling;
*Minimizing technological interventions;
*Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention.
The application of this model has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
