My name is Deborah Flowers and I am a CPM who has been practicing at The Farm in Summertown, TN for 33 years.
I moved to The Farm with my husband in 1973. Both of my children were born on The Farm and I had the honor of being the midwife at the births of my four grandchildren. After I had been a midwife for 12 years I went to school to get my RN license. While still practicing on The Farm as a midwife, I also worked in a local hospital in the well-baby nursery and NICU. Sixteen years ago I was hired by UNICEF to train 14 Mayan birth attendants in Belize. Currently I am practicing at The Farm Midwifery Center. I care for women who live locally as well as women who come to The Farm in the last weeks of their pregnancy from other states or countries. Last year we had two women from Turkey and one from Senegal who came to The Farm because the cesarean rate was very high where they live and they wanted a vaginal birth in a home like setting. On The Farm we have
